Behavioral Respite Curriculum

Overview   

All Behavioral Respite Caregivers, who are not already licensed TFC caregivers, receive the following training unless they can provide verifiable similar training from other sources.  Our training is broken up into the following 3 Modules and takes approximately 24 hours. 

MODULE 1: RESPIRO Model

Unit 1: Orientation to Behavioral Respite
Unit 2: Communication Skills Training
Unit 3: Understanding Behavior (or CPI)
Unit 4: Behavior Intervention (CPI) Unit 5: First Aid and CPR Unit 6:  Documentation, Record Keeping, Incident Reporting

MODULE 2:  AGENCY POLICIES & PROCEDURES

Unit 1:  Code of Conduct, Expectations
Unit 2:  Assisting with Medication Delivery (if applicable to youth)

MODULE 3:  SAFETY TRAINING 

Unit 1: Universal Precautions/Infection Control/Bloodborne Pathogens
Unit 2: HIPAA/Confidentiality
Unit 3: Ergonomics
Unit 4: Slips, Trips, Falls
Unit 5: Emergency Procedures, Safety Considerations
Unit 6: Transportation Safety Unit 7: Hand washing Unit 8: Fire Extinguisher Use Unit 9: Personal Protective Equipment Unit 10: Personal Safety and Security in the Workplace Unit 11: Evacuation Procedures Unit 12: Cyber Security in Healthcare
