Behavioral Respite Curriculum

Overview   

All Behavioral Respite Caregivers, who are not already licensed TFC caregivers, receive the following training unless they can provide verifiable similar training from other sources.  Our training is broken up into the following 3 Modules and takes approximately 24 hours. 

MODULE 1: RESPIRO Model

Unit 1: Orientation to Behavioral Respite
Unit 2: Communication Skills Training
Unit 3: Understanding Behavior
Unit 4: Behavior Intervention

MODULE 2:  AGENCY POLICIES & PROCEDURES

Unit 1:  Agency Policies, Code of Conduct, Expectations, State Regulations
Unit 2:  Mandated Reporting, Incident Reporting and Incident Management
Unit 3:  Assisting with Medication Delivery
Unit 4:  Documentation and Record Keeping

MODULE 3:  SAFETY TRAINING 

Unit 1: First Aid and CPR
Unit 2: CPI (Behavior Management/Prevention & De-escalation of Aggressive Behavior)
Unit 3: Universal Precautions/Infection Control/Bloodborne Pathogens
Unit 4: HIPAA/Confidentiality
Unit 5: Ergonomics
Unit 6: Slips, Trips, Falls
Unit 7: Emergency Procedures, Safety Considerations
Unit 8: Transportation Safety Unit 9: Hand washing Unit 10: Fire Extinguisher Use Unit 11: Personal Protective Equipment Unit 12: Electrical Shock Unit 13: Cyber Security in Healthcare
